The Tales Range conjur the stories of the evolution of the Journey’s End farm. From the historic landmark that sits lies at the foundation of our cellar to the outlier that hails from the wild West Coast of South Africa, the names of the wines take the consumer on a journey, while the range of bright and expressive wines present a compelling introduction to premium South African wine.
'Weather Station' Sauvignon Blanc 2024
This bright and balanced Sauvignon Blanc is named after the famed SB11 ‘Weerstasie Kloon’ (Weather Station clone), one of the core components used in this wine. First propagated in Stellenbosch in the 1920s, the clone made a huge resurgence in the late 1970s. The nickname ‘The Weather Station’ arose as the original plantings were done beside an old weather station, which proved invaluable in enabling the farms to spot oncoming changes in the weather and thus pick their fruit at its optimum condition.
Clear pale lemon colour with hints of green. The 2023 edition of the Weather Station displays pronounced green apple, citrus and grapefruits complimented by salty minerality and hints of kiwifruit. A lovely weight and round-mouth feel on the mid-palate, balanced natural acidity bringing with it freshness and length to the finish. Ready to drink now.
'Haystack' Chardonnay 2023
A fresh and vibrant Chardonnay that takes its name from the age-old practice of planting wheat between the rows of vines, as a natural way to prevent weeds and stabilise the topsoil. This is just one of several organic and bio-dynamic practices on our estate, and the wine pays homage to the preservation and protection of nature under our stewardship at Journey’s End
Clear and bright straw coloured with a hint of green. Fresh and vibrant aromas of apple, pear, and citrus. On the palate, you’ll find a crisp acidity balanced with tropical fruit and a lingering creaminess. The finish is clean and refreshing, with a lingering note of fruit and a subtle, buttery texture.
'The Wild One' Rosé 2023
The grenache grapes in the Journey’s End’s delicate but vivacious rosé hail from the Swartland, making it the Wild Child of the group. Hitherto an arid and windswept wilderness better known for sheep and wheat farming, the challenging terroir of the wild West Coast of South Africa is brim-full of potential to grow fantastic grapes.
This very beautiful light pink style rosé was carefully crafted and displays an abundance of succulent strawberry, luscious cherry and raspberry flavours with subtle rose petal undertones and a crisp, refreshing finish.
'The Huntsman' Shiraz Mourvedre Grenache 2021
In 1811, the first ever hunt in the New World took place in the Western Cape, with hounds imported from Gloucestershire, UK. The foundations of the Cape Hunt hounds’ original kennels were discovered by the Gabb family on the Journey’s End estate, and this momentous site was chosen to form the base of our cellar. Our expressive and juicy red is named in the hounds’ honour.
Expressive aromatics of violets, raspberry, and candy floss with hints of cinnamon spice. Juicy layers of red and dark berries break through on the palate accompanied by soft powdery tannins. An unintrusive, easy drinking summer red that is to be seriously enjoyed but not taken too seriously – cool down slightly for the ultimate summer braai/barbeque red. Drink now and until 2026.
'The Pastors Blend' 2022
This wine pays homage to the Pastor from the local village of Sir Lowry’s Pass who regularly deliver Sunday sermons at the foot of the Journey’s End vineyard and have assisted our team in channelling resources to uplift the local community. In 2020, the Journey’s End Foundation was established to continue this support through various programmes, including a soup kitchen initiative that delivers over a million meals per year.
This red blend displays a complex bouquet of rich dark red fruit aromas inclduing dark plums, black cherries and a hint of earthiness. These aromas are also experienced on the palate and are accompanied by sweet tobacco and Christmas cake characters. This wine has a well-integrated tannic structure showing elegance and some youth, as well as a potential to age gracefully.
